The Inquisition is organizing a mission of their own to Tevinter. If you've not heard. [But here's the really disgusting part:] To take the measure of the slave population, discern the use of it, and do little fucking else.

[Don't flatter yourself okay he has few outlets and most of them aren't half as ranty as Kitty and he likes rants this is just business, he's furious enough to lack discernment--]

Good. Because I imagine I won't be selected.

[Because my stupid fucking brother is project leader and will probably be an arse about it, just as he is an arse about mostly everything will be entirely too revealing, and so Nikos settles for a seething,] Yes.

[Though on the off-chance that Kostos removes his head from his arse or goes blind and lets Nikos' name pass through--and that's also on the chance that Nikos would submit himself, officially, to consideration of his suitability, processed through the Hostile Powers project, which again would mean submitting to Kostos' approval, probably, or something, what the fuck ever--]

Maybe. I don't fucking know. If you're selected, I have a proposition for you, is the point of this.

[Okay. A deep breath, to collect himself--or at least, to put himself back together a little, come down from his frustrated rage a little.]

When they organize, they typically allow participants to choose a party to accompany them. If they follow this model, and you are able. I would go. If not, you will have to carry out the plan without me. Which is not impossible but it is less than fucking ideal.

[No offense, he does not say. But he means it, kind of, in subtext.]

The difficulty posed by Tevinter, right now--one of the difficulties--is the border. Crossing it, and remaining undetected, will be easiest done if bundled up with the Inquisition's efforts. I know I had said working outside of them would be preferable, but they do have resources that I do not. Coin, contacts--there's former residents of the fucking Imperium here. That is needed for access.

Once we have an in, we move outside of the Inquisition. Follow their guidelines and their rules and complete the assignment, but move in secret, too. Because the Inquisition's only goal is to find a foothold in Tevinter. To use the slaves, not to free them. If freedom should happen along the way, they'd be happy to take credit for it, but they will make no serious effort or make any gesture toward freedom for the sake of freedom itself, which is owed to every man, woman, and child currently crushed beneath the yoke of slavery in that foul fucking country.

[Good. And Nikos unclenches his fists a little, now that he's gotten some of that out.]

I've not had need to speak with him. I know of him.

Why?

Mm.

[Non-committal, and not convinced. Nikos has nothing against pirates, these or any others. If the Inquisition will be consulting magisters, why not do the same, for their own purposes.

But also Kitty don't ruin this with conclusiveness.]

What makes you assume that of them?

half because Kitty has so much to say about it, and his pessimism makes him want to tear into all of that with criticism--but mostly because it all sounds almost too good to be true, which means that it probably is too good to be true--]

He talks of revolution how.

And here I thought you'd piss yourself at the chance to give me more of your opinions.

[Mr Averesch, gross.]

I'm sure it's the first you've ever heard. [And also,] Fuck off.

[And ALSO also--]

I have spoken with Flint. Briefly. He didn't strike me as anything much. If I'm being asked to waste my time on him, I want to know it up front, so I can keep it short.

[Wow Kitty if you like Flint so much why don't you go and infiltrate Tevinter with him

Which is to say that Nikos makes a noise of disgust.]

I'm beginning to remember how annoying you are. This isn't me being unsociable. This is me, being unwilling to hitch my fucking star to some arsehole who wants only his own success.

They care about their island. Fine. I hope they get it back. If our paths align toward an alliance, so much the better. I'm not going to go moon-eyed thinking Flint or any of them are the answer to my prayers. Or Tevinter's.

New allies are a given. The way you're talking has a fervency that I distrust.

Just what I need.

[Not.]

I'll pay attention to him. In the immediate--since he is keeping his cards close to his chest and, I would guess, does not speak with constant fervency--I would say save him for later. The other one might have more to offer to this stage.

Now I feel very assured.
